Genomics and Proteomics

 Genomics is the study of the entire set of genes found in living things, including humans, plants, animals and even viruses. More specifically, it refers to the analysis of the genomes of organisms, both anatomically (sequences and organization) and physiologically (expression and regulation).The genome, a combination of the words “gene” and “chromosome” is the complete set of hereditary instructions in each cell of every living thing that are needed by the organism for its development and functioning. It is similar to an instruction manual on how cells work.


Proteomics is the large-scale study of proteomes. A proteome is a set of proteins produced in an organism, system, or biological context. We may refer to, for instance, the proteome of a species (for example, Homo sapiens) or an organ (for example, the liver). The proteome is not constant; it differs from cell to cell and changes over time.
